The Bethany Sunday School
The Bethany Baptist Church Sunday School caters for children from pre-schoolers(2 and a half years old) to grade 10 school learners who are taught by carefully selected teachers who are dedicated and passionate to teach the word of God to the young ones and proclaim the truth and authority of the Bible clearly to ultimately lead them to trust in His word and reach the point where they will each individually be able to find personal salvation by faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone and by grace alone.
Teachers must display a gift for teaching, a passion for God’s word and testify to have personally come to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ by God’s grace. They must feel a calling to teach and have compassion for the lost, specifically the unsaved children.
Praying for our youth in the church is a priority that we strive to fulfill and trust the Holy Spirit to work a saving miracle in each of their lives.
Our curriculum is based on working through the whole Bible over a period of about 3 years. While the spiritual aspect in teaching is the main focus, the fact that the Bible is an accurate historical document is also emphasized, from the 6 day creation (about 6000 years ago), the fall of Adam (sin), the global catastrophic flood and Noah and the Ark, the Tower of Babel and confusion of many languages, through to Jesus birth, ministry, death and resurrection, culminating in the consummation of the end times and the day of judgment where every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
The lessons are well prepared and the teachers try to make them interesting and fun while ensuring that the serious message of the Gospel and obedience to God’s word is accentuated.
We also take part in the Baptist Union Scripture Exam that makes up the first terms curriculum and encourage as many as possible to write. The theme this year is based on the missionary calling, looking at Abraham, with the memory passages coming from John 3.
The High School students (grades 8 – 10) are in one class and the curriculum is sometimes punctuated with in depth focus on specific topics to expose them to proper hermeneutics and apologetics so they can get answers to the real questions in life that they will be exposed to, like what about abortion?, what about same sex marriage and homosexuality, what about evolution vs creation, etc
The classes are divided up by age group depending on the numbers attending. The classes this year are as follows:
Pre-school Aunty Janice and Aunty Kelly
Grades 1 – 2 Aunty Deziand Aunty Chantelle
Grades 3 – 4 Aunty Elmarie
Grades 5 – 7 Aunty Adele
Grades 8 – 10 Corne/ Quinton / Pastor Jonathan
We meet on Sunday mornings between 8am and 9am during our family Bible hour. See calendar for the Sundays we meet.
